single coils
Featured
Ever since the inception of the electric guitar single coils have been in the forefront of sonic bliss. Since 1931 with the inception of the first electric guitar made by Rickenbacker (the same company behind the 4001 bass wielded by legends such as Cliff Burton and Lemmy Killmister) nicknamed, “the frying pan”, it didn’t take long until 1954 with the introduction of the most iconic shape to date the Stratocaster by the godfather of the electric guitar that is Leo Fender (1909 – 1991). And so, the electric guitar has reached its full potential as a legit musical instrument. And as time went on, the stratocaster equipped with more pickup varieties than it once had, has laid dormant in the hands of countless icons, from the frantic and otherworldly moves of Jimi Hendrix, to the slow-hand blues maestro that is Eric Clapton, to the neo-classical shred extravagance of Yngwie Malmsteen and Eric Johnson.
Without the stratocaster, single coils would not have been a mainstay in music production.
So what tickles your fancy? Do you want the crisp and clean shimmering spank of Stevie Ray Vaughan, the feedback-soaked fuzz of Jimi Hendrix, or the twangy southern swagger of Ed King (Lynrd Skynrd).
